"This summer, Green Street Academy scholars have been learning about intensive hoop-house farming, animal husbandry, and marketing heirloom vegetables to high-end restaurants all as part of their YouthWorks summer job experience. GSA Farms, which evolved from a tiny during-school Gardening Club created by a TFA alum, now features a 150-foot hoop house, a tilapia farm, a chicken coop, and hundreds of feet of raised bed space. Scholars use these outdoor-living educational spaces during the school year as part of the curriculum, and as opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom."
GSA is always looking for volunteers or like-minded teachers interested in the environment who want to connect with the school and learn more about the programs they offer. Email Mike Rennard (Baltimore '07) for more information!
