Yasmene Mumby (Baltimore '08), is the Director of Community Engagement at KIPP Baltimore. In this role, she founded Team ORGANIZE - a blended team of parents, teachers, leadership staff, and students who act together on school and city-wide issues that positively benefit KIPP and Baltimore City. In June of 2012, Yasmene was unanimously elected by the 30 member organizations to serve as volunteer Co-Chair of the Baltimore Education Coalition (BEC), a city-wide group whose mission is to ensure that all children in Baltimore City receive an excellent education. The BEC has prevented $125 million in proposed education funding cuts, kept school-based health centers open, and succesfully supported the passage of a small bottle tax that will leverage an additional $155 million for school construction and renovations. Currently the BEC is in the middle of an unprecedented historic effort to Transform Baltimore - a campaign to renovate and rebuild Baltimore City's schools. In order to secure the first $1 billion of $2.4 needed to rebuild schools, the BEC is organizing a 3,000 person rally in Annapolis on February 25th. Please contact Yasmene to get involved with events at the BEC this year, including the rally on the 25th!
